What Is Considered Pre Diabetic

Anyone who is a motorist and has driven a vehicle for the foremost of their life will know very well what ‘last exit’ signs on the highway mean. It is your last chance to get off the expressway before you cross a bridge or something similar, and you make the choice you make based on your understanding of that. Plenty of diabetics will drive a car too, and so maybe that is why the last-exit reference will be something they will get if we are talking about what is pre diabetes.

People need to decide if they are going to take the exit or cross the bridge into full-blown diabetes. The reason we say that is there is plenty in the medical community online that suggests that you can reverse diabetes if you are prediabetic. Is it easy? No, it certainly isn’t and it is also something that is much more possible for people with Type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance than people with Type 1 diabetes.

So, if you are a Type 2 diabetic who has had a very lackadaisical attitude to what you eat and continued indifference to a sedentary lifestyle then you need to have the perspective that it is your last chance to make changes that will prevent you from becoming a diabetic and being on medication. It will not be easy, but it may be one of the smarter decisions you have made. We will look at what is pre diabetes further here now, and what is the criteria to be considered prediabetic.

Sneaky Affliction

Pre diabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough for them to be seen as having Type 2 diabetes. There is milliliter per deciliter measurements for that, but the best way for people to understand what is pre diabetes may be to give themselves a common symptom assessment. Needing to urinate more, abnormal, and unexplainable thirst, significant weight changes, fatigue or lack of energy, blurry vision, recurring infections, and tingling in the feet can be signs of pre diabetes.

But an entire lack of symptoms can also be a reality with what is pre diabetes, and there are estimates that more ¾ of people with pre diabetes will not even be aware that they may be on their way to becoming diabetic. It is also something that occurs more commonly for people of certain ethnicities, and namely African American, Hispanic, or Latino American, and Native Americans. These folks will want to be even more mindful, and especially if there is a history of diabetes in their family. You may know what is pre diabetes, but considering that symptoms can be non-existent if you are at more at risk of it you are going to need to be more on your toes about developing diabetes. If you take a fasting plasma glucose test and it comes back with anything more than 100ml per deciliter then that is what is considered to be prediabetic. The same will apply for A1c hemoglobin test scores that are between 5.7 to 6.4%. If that is the reality for you then you may well need to make a choice as to whether you will continue along the highway and over the bridge, or whether you will take that last exit and see if you cannot reverse pre diabetes.
