Morbid is the adjectival form of morbidity, and if you’re familiar with what it means then you’ll know it suggests a pretty bleak future for whatever it is. There are plenty of people who are significantly overweight or even obese. But when someone is morbidly obese then it starts to become a situation where they become spectacles in public, and not in a good way. So, while it is okay to look to diabetic medication for weight loss, we all need to remember that these medications are Rx medications. You will need a doctor’s prescription to buy them, and you may not be receiving one for Ozempic or any other if you are looking to lose a lot of weight. Many Type 2 diabetics do have excess body weight concerns though, and so they may be the ones who will have success with starting on Ozempic or one of the other diabetes management injections.

Look Elsewhere

If your focus is more on your midsection and less on your blood sugar, then you may be better served by using a medication like Saxenda. Unlike Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro it is intended for weight loss and if you have a BMI (body mass index) of 27 or higher you may be a candidate to start on Saxenda. People who do not have Type 2 diabetes but want to start on Ozempic are very likely going to be pointed towards Saxenda instead.

The exception to that will be when a diabetic is not comfortable with using a medication that needs to be injected. Saxenda is also an injection, and there are some people who will never be okay with needles no matter how self-sedated or semi-smashed they are. It is possible to arrange for home nursing care services to receive an injection, but it is not going to be inexpensive. The last thing we will say around which diabetes medications cause weight loss is that if you cannot take an injection then you may need to aim to use an oral medication like Januvia. They will promote weight loss too if you adhere to diet and exercise changes too, but maybe not to the same extent.
